What is MVe?
MVe is a muzzle velocity estimator without the need for a chronograph. The idea is to use the distance between point of impact (POI) and point of aim (POA) at two different ranges.
How to use it?
Step 1. Measure your airgun's sight height in inches.
Step 2. Find the ballistic coefficient of your particular pellet. You can use one of those Airgun Pellet BC tables available.
Step 3. Select two different ranges (in yards) for two targets - one near and one far.
Reasonable choices for Rn/Rf might be 10 and 25 yds. You can try using the target we have or use any target you want.
Step 4. Then print groups on both targets -- ideally alternating shots between targets (so that any shot-to-shot MV variation will average out). Retrieving the targets, estimate the centroids of the groups and
measures the vertical distance between POA and POI for both targets. When the POI is ABOVE the POA, this is counted as a POSITIVE difference. When
the POI is BELOW the POA, that's NEGATIVE.
If more than one group was shot on each target (a good idea to improve
precision), the POI - POA differences are averaged to get better statistics.
Step 5. Enter the values in the calculator.
